Competitive bidding threshold

Public work over the contract limit — $260,000 for 2026 — must be advertised and let to the lowest responsible and responsive bidder under Louisiana's Public Bid Law (R.S. 38:2212).1 The limit is adjusted annually by the Consumer Price Index.

The bid advertisement runs once a week for three weeks, with the first notice at least 25 days before bids open.

Award standard

Contracts go to the lowest responsible and responsive bidder.1

Multiple-prime contracts

Louisiana has no statewide multiple-prime mandate. Unlike New York's Wicks Law or Pennsylvania's Separations Act, a single general contract is permitted.

Prevailing wage

Louisiana has no state prevailing-wage law. Federal Davis-Bacon rates apply only to federally funded work.

Document distribution & addenda

Louisiana DOTD makes addenda available to all potential bidders at least four days before bid opening, and if an addendum is needed within three working days of bid opening the bid date is extended by one week.3

If an addendum is required within three working days of bid opening, the bid date is extended by one week.

Record of change

For 2026, Louisiana's public-works contract limit rose to $260,000 under the Public Bid Law's annual CPI adjustment (from a $250,000 base set in 2020). Louisiana has no state prevailing wage.
